Problem with iTunes

So, I'm having this problem with iTunes where the older version cannot be removed for my computer so that it can install the new version. I've never had this problem before. The computer tells me that iTunes-setup.msi can't be found and that it is on a resource that is unavailable. Is there a way to resolve this issue?

Yes. Why do you remove the old version? Just install the new one, it updates easy.
Next if you must find it and are using 7 go to computer, C crive, programs and delete it.
Have you checked under add and remove programs as well?
Last, if you just tried to remove it, say today or yesterday do a system restore, than install the new one over it. iTunes does not require removing older versions for the new. It is better to simply update it.

But that's not what I'm saying. The whole problem is that the computer removes the older version automatically and installs the new version, but the computer is telling me that it can't remove it, because it's on a network source that is unavailable.

Ah. Okay. Remove it manually. Go to add and remove programs. Remove it. Reinstall it.

Ok, tried removing the iTunes folder from the program files and the program files x86 folder, and it still won't install. I still can't even uninstall it. When it brings up the issue, it tells me that the file is located in th usersconsumersapple data folder, but I can't find an Apple data folder in my program files. I used to be able to install updates with no problem whatsoever. So, should I go for a system restore?

apple data on my computer running windows 7 is under c: user user name which in my case is matt, then app data, and then roaming and then apple data. I'd just cut this folder somewhere else rather than delete it perminantly until you have a fix.

I actually can't find it there on my computer. It almost looks like that folder no longer exists.

Ok, so I still haven't resolved the issue, and now I'm going to upgrade iTunes pretty soon. The computer keeps telling me this: the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable and that it can't find the file itunes-setup.msi. I can't upgrade or do an uninstall until I can find a way to resolve it.

I thought you were going to have a tech locally look at it? You've got some other issue that is hard to figure without hands on?

See if the windows installer clean up utility is still available on the web somewhere. If it is, install it, and run it. It should show you all the programs installed on your system, find iTunes and delete it. If you need help PM or email, and I'll be happy to help. Could even tandem in if you need the assistance.

Read this article from Microsoft.
Lastly, if User acount control is turned on, turn it off for a bit to try installing/uninstalling iTunes without UAC running.

That is an idea. I turned the user off when updating just a day or so ago.

This exact issue came to me personally, and I now know how it should be fixed, or what I and a friend did to repair iTunes
You can’t download iTunes. We downloaded the file on another computer, put it in drop box, or if you are close, you can use any media to move the file from one computer to the other.
If the file is downloaded on a 64 bit machine and you need the 32 bit version you’ll have to search for that using the search box on the site, because Apple decides the version you need automatically.
Now you can install iTunes on the computer that had the issue. You will have to run it as an administrator however.
iTunes installs normally. My preference is to install it and uncheck all the boxes that suggest it should be your default player for all file types. My reason for this is it is easier to manage your library as you like.
